  • Kettlebell Simple and Sinister 32kg Techniques | Ottawa Personal Trainer Camron Sabour

    In this vlog we're looking at the techniques in Pavel Tsatsouline's book Simple & Sinister. The exercises are just 4. 2 for warm up and 2 for the meat of the program. First for warm up the individual does 6x8 goblet squats and 6x8 halos. These exercises get your joints working properly in their full range of motion as well as build foundation strength for any further development of skills. The meat of the program is the Turkish Get Up, performed with kettlebells if available, and One Arm Kettlebell Swing. Just be warned, these exercises are quite subtle and you'll require a lot of studying to get even 80% correct. The first time anyone tries these exercises it's a very cringe worthy.     I can't recall whether it was Brett Jones or Charlie Weingroff that I picked this one up from; both are very smart and talented trainers and I believe both are fans of this exercise. I've used this sporadically over the past couple of years but am starting to use it more often. The goal is to encourage breathing through the belly as a way to improve both oxygen intake as well as improving thoracic spine mobility (chest breathing can lead to trouble with the diaphragm). I particularly like this exercise because I think there is an additional core stability benefit. Try it for a minute or two to start each workout, with a focus on breathing as deeply as possible.
